Chair of The Board (2019 - 2026)

 

The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is a global standard for the good governance of oil, gas and mineral resources. Its purpose is financial transparency and improved governance in the extractive industry. Over 50 countries are currently members.

In June 2019, Helen Clark was appointed Chair of the Board, the EITI's main governing body. She was subsequently reappointed in 2023 for a further three-year term. On 8 October 2026, Helen Clark opened the 10th EITI Global Conference as the outgoing Chair of the EITI Board.

During her time as Chair, Helen Clark promoted stronger governance and accountability in the extractives sector, including through the adoption of the 2023 EITI Standard and new requirements on energy transition, climate change and critical minerals. She championed stronger measures on beneficial ownership, anti-corruption, state-owned enterprises and gender equality, as well as greater transparency around the social and environmental impacts of resource extraction.
